Zooming thru St Louis and Kansas City

St. Louis

Our arch sighting

We didn’t give St. Louis a fair shake. We drove from Nashville and arrived late and tired. Our hotel was far outside downtown, so this is our only sighting of the arch. We stayed at an “historic” Route 66 hotel, but we made little use of the amenties: bar, pool, restaurant. We didn’t even manage to get a family picture in front of the giant Route 66 mural in the lobby. We were exhausted, we ate some crappy fast food, and we went to sleep. Sorry STL.

Kansas City

We were in KC slightly longer than STL, and we managed to get out to Royal’s stadium to watch our Mets beat the whoevers….

LFGM! The Mets win!
Sitting on Soto’s side except he was DH. But he hit a 2-run HR

We had a long layover in Union Station in KC waiting to catch the nightime train.

Fortunately, the station has some fun diversions. We took in a laser Beatles show, (they played the whole Sgt. Peppers album in the plantetarium showroom), and there are escape rooms and movie theaters.

World War 1 monument and museum

We chose the overnight train, so we “slept” through Kansas, waking in Colorado at 6am.

Sleeping in an Amtrak sleeper room is neither sleep-inducing nor roomy. As Dave said in the morning, it was his worst night sleep ever. But the scenery on the way into New Mexico is gorgeous. Glad we did it, at least once.
